Working with old Reason files
In an attempt to dig up old tunes to use for marketing materials, I came across some old Reason Documents that appear as “Reason Legacy Song File” and do not even have an icon, and won’t open correctly.
Some of the Reason documents I’ve got can be as old as Reason Version 2.5. I think at that time the Mac OS didn’t use file extensions, and since MacOSX it does now. Apple hides the file extension but you can make them visible.
I like keeping the file extensions visible, and that’s how I have it set, but you can choose it to be however you’d like.
So this Reason Legacy Song File is so old… it doesn’t even have a file extension… and no icon can be fetched. There’s a way to fix this.
Here’s how you can fix it if you’ve stumbled across this as well…
Find the file, click it once and then hit the Return key on the keyboard, and you will be able to change the name. Just add (without the quotes) “.rns” then hit Return key again.
This Reason file is from 2003… 20 years ago.
Just add .rns
When asked, Click “Add”
… and you get a normal looking Reason file!
And it’s all fixed!
